State No. 2: Hawaii (Haleakalā National Park, Maui)

"Ua Mau ke Ea o ka 'Āina i ka Pono"
(Hawaiian for "The life of the land is perpetuated in righteousness")

This is simply one of the most amazing experiences a person can have. It was really worth having to be ready to start driving out to Haleakalā at around 2 a.m. Despite the freezing temperatures from being so high up, it was so cool to be sitting there on top of a volcano and waiting for the sun to rise with my family (and other people, of course). If you're ever in Maui, do not let the chance of witnessing such beauty pass you by. Also, dress warm! It's Hawaii, I know, but it's like a New York winter at the top. You've been warned.
